If a person lives long enough in a certain environment, some of the elements of that place become part of one’s soul. This may be why musical roots run so deep into the southern culture of Rock and Roll, Blues, Rhythm and Blues, and Soul.
The Jeff Quillen Band is a group of seasoned musicians from the heartland of that musical universe.
Jeff Quillen has always been a Musician. From childhood, “Music” has been more than a hobby or past time.
While in grade school Jeff joined the Loretto High School “Marching Mustangs” as a drummer.
As a freshman at LHS he formed his first band “GRANITE” which performed at dances, parties and events throughout the Southern Tennessee/North Alabama/Mississippi area.
Jeff attended The University of North Alabama where he majored in Commercial Music, based in and around Wishbone, FAME, and Muscle Shoals Sound recording studios of Muscle Shoals. After leaving UNA in ’83, he joined a group that toured the Southeast, Mid-West, and Canada. In 1984 he built a recording studio, became a BMI writer and publisher, recording many local artists including “Nuthin’ Fancy” with Loretto native John (Paul) White.
In 1988, Jeff joined a group of singers at Muscle Shoals Sound Studios to record vocals for an upcoming Lynyrd Skynyrd album. The next few years saw performances with the bands, FARMER, APUL, (opened for Jimmy Hall and also The Kentucky Headhunters), Trace, Four On The Floor, HATS! (Wildhorse Saloon, Morgan Freeman’s “Ground Zero Blues Club” in Clarksdale MS), and supporting Johnny Messer and many other local artists at various events.
Since 2007, The Jeff Quillen Band has been a mainstay of Festivals, Parties, and events around the Southeast. Members of The JQB have also recording projects for Curtis Hall (w/Spooner Oldham/piano), The Johnny Messer Band (w/Harvey Thompson/Sax and NC Thurman/keyboards), The Leoma Music Company, The Franklin Family, and many other sessions. The Band’s song list spans four decades from rowdy anthems to soul stirring ballads covering generations of music heritage and appreciation for the artists that gave us the music we call classics.
Jeff prides himself in having some of the most talented and sought after musicians as bandmates.
