Studies have shown that historic preservation excels as a creator of jobs and a generator of local economic growth. The rehabilitation of a historical building relies on local builders and suppliers. Preservation means new business and more jobs. Where there is historical preservation, there is investment dollars spent in the local economy, job creation, and an increase in property value. Money invested in a community tends to stay in that community, benefiting the whole community.
In addition to preservation, Main Street Lawrenceburg wants to also promote tourism to keep people coming back to our town. Tourism is the 2nd largest industry in the State of Tennessee and studies have shown that tourism benefits from something called “Heritage Tourism.” Heritage Tourism involves those tourist who come to visit historical and cultural sites. Historical sites are the 2nd largest tourist attraction in Tennessee and Heritage Tourism spurs economic growth in food services, lodging, and transportation.
When people come to visit Lawrenceburg, one of the first places they will explore is the historic downtown area. The historic downtown area is not only the heart of the community, it is a reflection of our heritage and history, a reflection of our people, our economic state, and our leadership.
As money is spent in our community through preservation efforts, tourism, or local spending, you can literally watch the money multiply, helping one person and then another and another.
