Date/Time: Saturday, June 14, 2014 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
The Lawrence County Classic Car Club and Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a county-long parade of antique cars.
Models must be 1981 or older to be in the parade – street rods are welcome. Rain or Shine.
Must be at parade site by 9:30 a.m. Parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. in Summertown at Tietgen’s Superama parking lot and proceed South non-stop to St Joseph Civic Center & Park. There are three locations where you may join in the parade with your antique vehicles:
- Ethridge Church of Christ at 10:15
- Goody’s Parking Lot at 10:30
- F & M Bank in Loretto at 11:00
A State Trooper remains at the end of the parade, stopping on the highway at each of the 3 cruise-in locations while those cars pull out into the parade. The State Trooper stays behind the last car until the parade ends at the Civic Center. A State Trooper and the Sheriff lead the parade with deputies that go in front and stop traffic from pulling into the parade. The parade route is 30 miles long on a 4 lane highway so no traffic is stopped for any great length of time. When the parade goes through the city, it does not stop at traffic lights – the police hold the other traffic until all parade participants get through. At the end of the parade, the vehicles are parked inside the St Joseph Park on display.
Trophies will be given for oldest car, longest distance driven, car club with most participants and roughest thang running. Lunch will be available at St Joseph Civic Center.
Admission is free and music (country, 50’s, 60’s, gospel and some blues) is free. There are food vendors in addition to several other vendors selling T-shirts, toys, arts and crafts, bake sale, pony rides, street dancing, etc. Last year there were approximately 190 cars in this parade!
Vendors may contact Merry Gabel, 931-212-1727 or 931-845-4203.
Musical entertainment will be The Cadillacs. For music info contact Dennis Odem, 256-767-0096 or 256-757-1902.
The St Joe Fire Department, 931-845-4141 will provide the main meal of steak, baked potato, beans, roll, dessert and drink for $10.00.
